Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Process

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, treats drooping or fullness of the upper or lower eyelids. Excess fat and skin around the eyes can lead to a tired appearance. Blepharoplasty uses small incisions that are hidden within natural skin folds to remove excess skin, fat and muscle.

Scars are usually almost imperceptible. Sometimes the lower eyelids can be treated using incisions made on the inside of the lower eyelid, with no external scars, in a procedure called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. At GIAA, we tailor our eyelid surgery to the needs of each individual patient.

General Recovery Information:

Swelling can be extreme in the few days right after surgery, but subsides quickly consistently usually. Staying upright as much as possible and blinking can help"pump" away some of the initial swelling that builds up while you are lying down.

The cheek area can also have some swelling or bruising. Some patients also experience some temporary numbness of the upper lashes. Most patients feel comfortable heading back to work in 10-14 days and can resume light exercise around that time as well.
